What are soul contracts?

This concept can be extremely harmful to abuse and sexual assault victims, who already feel responsible for the trauma that has been perpetrated on them.

The notion that we are supposed to die a certain, pre-ordained way, and that we contract abusive experiences is also utilized as a form of spiritual bypassing in the spiritual community so that the observers of these dynamics do not feel required to exhibit empathy. Spiritual abusers use these concepts to gaslight abuse victims into accepting accountability for their own abuse.

The concept of pre-ordained death contracts can lead to a lack of accountability for one’s actions, particularly if those actions are only affecting people who the person has no personal connection with.

This is a form of spiritual bypassing.

In both of these cases, these spiritual concepts are used as an avenue for the observer to remove or avoid personal/social accountability. When the personal accountability is removed, it means that person no longer has to deal with the emotional consequences of their actions, nor do they have to sit with the uncomfortable emotions drudged up by witnessing another person’s pain (also known as empathy).

Are Soul Contracts Real?

According to multiverse theory, we potentially live in just one of a multitude of potential versions of ourselves. When you apply this to reincarnation, it means the higher self has the capability of experiencing every possible outcome of any potential life, hence why many in the spiritual community talk about timelines shifting and changing. If all potentialities of an incarnation are experienced, this means that the concept of souls contracting to experience suffering as a means of spiritual growth is a misunderstanding created from a human being’s (psychic/channel) limited perspective within time, because there are also lives where the same soul is not experiencing suffering. That makes the concept of soul contracts as they are currently understood a distortion of spiritual truth.

If the concept of a soul contract does exist, it is not only between the two souls in question. It is also a contract between everyone in the collective who is observing that interaction, and is meant to be a lesson to them as well: to make them aware of the societal karma of enablement and their social responsibility to each other as a part of a connected community. Spirituality asserts that all souls are a manifestation of a single entity and part of the whole, which means those souls are simply another version of you. To ignore this connection is a form of separation consciousness.

The concept of soul contracts is rendered void by the idea that our universe exists as but one in an infinite multiverse full of alternate and parallel realities where all possibilities exist and are experienced. This concept also does not absolve incarnate souls from their karmic duty to each other as part of a connected whole.
