What is reincarnation?

Common misconceptions about reincarnation include:

• we are attempting to end the cycle of reincarnation
• we experience lives in a linear sequence and our current incarnation is the most recent
• we are forced to incarnate to work off karmic debts

All Lives Are Happening Now

From within our current incarnation, time appears to be linear only flow forward. From a scientific perspective, this is an illusion. Einsteins theory of general relativity posits that time is experienced relative to the velocity which we are traveling through space. The faster we move through space, the slower time moves. When one reaches the speed of light, time stops. Einstein called this space time.

From a spiritual perspective, it is said that our higher selves are synonymous with light. Our souls are aspects of our higher selves, therefore, our higher selves–and our souls–experience a state of timelessness.

This means that all of our incarnations, past, present, and future, exist concurrently in the only moment there is: now.

Because all lives are experienced concurrently, there is no actual linear “cycle” of reincarnation to end. The very nature of a cycle means that it is cyclical: a circle. Therefore it has no beginning and no end. Likewise, because all incarnations are concurrent from a spiritual perspective, reincarnating to work off karmic debts is a fallacy. When you heal, releasing karma in this life, you simultaneously heal and release karma in all lives.

You Have Multiple Incarnations

Your higher self is experiencing all incarnations across time in a singular moment. And because the higher self exists beyond the concept of time and encompasses the soul of each incarnation, your higher self may also be incarnate in more than one body in any given time period. When a soul is incarnate in two bodies, this concept is known as twin souls.

Can souls be incarnate in more than two bodies? At the highest level, all beings incarnate on earth within every time period are a part of the same energetic source, which some call God.

Soul Contracts

According to multiverse theory, we potentially live in just one of a multitude of potential versions of ourselves. When you apply this to reincarnation, it means the higher self has the capability of experiencing every possible outcome of any potential life, hence why many in the spiritual community talk about timelines shifting and changing. If all potentialities of an incarnation are experienced, this means that the concept of souls contracting to experience suffering as a means of spiritual growth is a misunderstanding created from a human being’s (psychic/channel) limited perspective within time, because there are also lives where the same soul is not experiencing suffering. That makes the concept of soul contracts as they are currently understood a distortion of spiritual truth.
