Perspective & The Purpose of Existence

Feb 23, 2015 | Question Submission, Reincarnation, Science and Metaphysics, Spirit

Question from a reader:

“Since all things are happening at once, part of our soul is already on the other side interacting with loved ones, we are just not aware of it. So when our physical body shuts down, does that part our our soul that just lived this particular life join the part or our soul that is already there? When that happens, does it make a difference in regards to the growth we experience on the other side? What is the purpose of having to go through so many challenges in life in order for our soul to evolve if part of our soul is always on the other side with source energy? Why aren’t we just that part, that is pure source?”

This is a complex question, so pardon me if I write a novel. In order to answer it thoroughly, we must first dive into another concept which hasn’t been touched on in your question, but is vital to your understanding of it.

The concept that we have to discuss first is perspective.

When we look at the totality of the experience of spirituality, there many vantage points from which we can look at it.

Some are more complete than others.

You can look at it from the perspective of a human incarnate (which we all are, and so this is the most common perspective) – this perspective is from within the illusion, so our understanding of it is always a bit skewed.

We can look at it from a more universal perspective, which would encompass our place on earth and what it means in relation to the rest of the universe (and other planets/beings evolving therein). This would be a slightly wider perspective than what we have here on earth.

We can look at it from the soul’s perspective, which would be even larger still.

And finally we could look at it from the perspective of God/Source which would be the largest perspective. There may be even larger perspectives still, but they’re probably so far beyond the grasp of our puny human brains, we won’t go into it for this purpose. 🙂

When you read channellings and other spiritual teachings, they’re always coming from one or more of these perspectives, and that’s why sometimes information seems conflicting or contradictory.

In order for it to make sense, you have to be able to hop between these perspectives and see how things fit together.

To give you an example of how important perspective is in understanding these things:

People used to believe that the world was flat and the sun revolved around it. You could walk outside and observe it. See it. There it is. That was the observable truth from our incarnate human perspective.

But it wasn’t until we were able to see our world from a higher vantage point (a higher perspective) that we realized it was exactly the opposite! The earth, in fact, revolved around the sun and it was quite round.

Once you see it from that vantage point, you know that it’s unequivocally true. You can jump back and forth between those perspectives, and in every day life, the ground is flat and the sun moves across the sky is still true… but it only has that appearance from where you are. And you KNOW that isn’t the WHOLE truth. It’s only the part you can currently see from your limited perspective.

So now you see what a difference in our understanding of reality that seeing things from a higher perspective can make. It can literally shift your entire notion of reality, depending on which vantage point you are looking at a given situation from.

Now, to dive into your questions:

“Since all things are happening at once, part of our soul is already on the other side interacting with loved ones, we are just not aware of it. So when our physical body shuts down, does that part our our soul that just lived this particular life join the part or our soul that is already there?”

The part of your soul that just lived this particular life never left the part that is already there. They were never separated so there’s no need to rejoin. A soul does  not need to leave “there” to come “here.” You are a multidimensional being, which means you exist in multiple dimensions simultaneously, just as your soul is experiencing it’s incarnations simultaneously. You are simply unaware,  as your current awareness (and perspective) is limited to where “you” are now, here on earth.

“When that happens, does it make a difference in regards to the growth we experience on the other side?”

So earlier in your question, you acknowledged that all things are happening simultaneously. But in order for there to be “growth” that would denote that there must be some place to begin and end.

So which is it? Do we “grow” or are we already grown because we were never not grown to begin with and we have always existed in exactly the state that we are because there is no time?

Allow me to suggest to you that this is again a matter of perspective.

There is no growth and there are no lessons and life is not a school. It merely gives that appearance your perspective within linear time because as you live your experience, you appear to “learn” things.

Your soul wishes to experience itself. In order for there to be an experience, there must be linear time so that things can “happen.” Experience is the goal, evolution is the byproduct – at least from the linear perspective.  The two exist simultaneously, just as our example from up above with the earth and the sun. It all depends on where you are looking at it from.

“What is the purpose of having to go through so many challenges in life in order for our soul to evolve if part of our soul is always on the other side with source energy? Why aren’t we just that part, that is pure source?”

Again, I suggest to you that your soul’s goal and God’s goal is not to evolve, it is to experience. That is merely what it appears as from your perspective within linear time and that is how many spirits and spiritual teachers describe it to you, so that you can understand it and that is what happens when you experience. Ultimately, your soul is EXPERIENCING life. That is the ultimate purpose of existence. Existing! And all of the things that encompasses.

You ARE that part that is pure source and pure source is a part of you. You were never separate. You are source experiencing itself in a physical existence.

You do not “have” to go through challenges. No one is forcing you to do anything. You choose to experience them so that you may know yourself as more than just an idea and from a unique perspective. And not just a single unique perspective, from every perspective.

And here again, we have yet more perspectives – “you” as in the personality you know yourself as, a.k.a. ego, “you” as in your higher self, and “you” as in source. Three aspects of “you” and your  multidimensional self, each with a different perspective.

In order to fully understand this, I suggest ordering a copy of Conversations With God here if you haven’t already read it.

My first reaction to the reading was WOW. Your words captured a theme woven into my life right now. The reading has emboldened me to take back my power and inspired me to research some books, get back to meditating and provided a focus.
