Are Ouija Boards Evil?

“We fear things in proportion to our ignorance of them.” – Titus Livius

Ah, the poor, misunderstood ouija board. Everyone hates him. If he were a living breathing person in Salem, he’d be burned at the stake.

So what’s the skinny on the ouija? Do they attract negative entities? Open portals to hell? Unleash the Dark Lord Cthulhu?

Short answer – no, no, and no. Ouija boards are not evil. They are not of the devil. They do not, in and of themselves, attract negative entities, demons or otherwise.

Why is this true, when so many people believe they do?

There are two underlying metaphysical principles that are at the root of every spiritual teaching:

Thought creates reality and like energy attracts like energy (Law of Attraction).

YOU are in charge of all of your experiences, including what happens when you use a ouija board.

So essentially, BECAUSE they believe otherwise, that is the experience that they will attract to themselves.

A ouija board (and all talking boards, for that matter) is a tool. It’s like tarot cards, pendulums, crystal balls, tea leaves or any other form of divination. How it’s used is entirely dependent up on the user and their thoughts and feelings about it.

A ouija board is nothing more than a piece of cardboard. Cardboard doesn’t attract negative energy. People do.

To rehash a topic from another post, your thoughts create your reality. When a concept is so ingrained in the human psyche, like, oh, say… the constant fearful perpetuation that ouija boards are evil, the very mention of it can automatically create cognitive predispositions.

If you’re using a ouija board for the purpose of giving yourself and your friends a thrill, or you’re using it with the thought in your head that what you’re doing isn’t good, guess what? That’s what you’re going to get.

You’re going to invite and attract an energy that matches the experience you are expecting, or fearing, whichever.

But the funny thing is…you don’t have to be using a ouija board to attract that. All you have to do is walk around with that kind of attitude toward anything and that’s what it will bring you, because YOU are creating your experiences. If you live in fear, you’re just as likely to summon a negative entity following your grandmother’s macaroni and cheese recipe if that’s what you really believe will happen.

If you don’t believe in all of that, you’re emotionally sound and your intentions are pure, you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Stop blaming the board for operator error. You hold all the power.

Sorry Cthulhu.  Maybe tomorrow.

Live consciously and live fearlessly, folks. You are the masters of your experience. Don’t be a ouijaphobe.

1. intense or irrational dislike or fear of a piece of cardboard.

Spread the awareness! Friends don’t let friends live in fear of cardboard. This is a public service announcement from your friendly, powerless, closeted ouija board.

  1. LOL…absolutely love this post, especially the end. I think Foamy The Squirrel could do a similar rant on Ouija boards. You summed up the post in much the same fashion as he sums up his rants. And very well written, too, as are all of your posts!

    • Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it 😀

  3. Humor is a great way to teach or make a point, and you do it beautifully, Ash! I’ve been meaning to get an E-board (I THINK that’s what it’s called) that Elisa talks about on the CE blog. I just have to find someone who’s willing to use it with me!

My first reaction to the reading was WOW. Your words captured a theme woven into my life right now. The reading has emboldened me to take back my power and inspired me to research some books, get back to meditating and provided a focus.
